A zine about various environmental issues

Written & Illustrated by
Taynasia Sistrunk

This zine explores various issues that are prevalent in today's society. How we consume is overbearing and the earth is seeing its effects as fast as ever. Over consumption, carbon emission, and climate change are some problems that are killing us and the environment.Carbon Emission increases how much carbon dioxide, methane, and other gases are in the air. These gases are trapped under the ozone layer and have been steadily damaging the bubble. The deterioration of the ozone layer leads to less protection from the blazing sun. Carbon emission causes what is known as the greenhouse effect. The biggest worry about excessive carbon is climate change. Climate change is predicted to worsen by 2030! Scientists believe there is no turning back after then. Our carbon footprint is as big as ever. Use the resources below to figure out various ways in which you can contribute to fighting this global change.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE WORRIED

- The last seven years have been the warmest seven years on record- We throw out enough plastic every year that it could encompass the planet 4 times.- Increased emissions of greenhouse gases have caused temperatures to rise, which are causing catastrophic events all over the world- The climate crisis is causing tropical storms and other weather events such as hurricanes, heat waves and flooding to be more intense and frequent than seen before.- 17% of the Amazon rainforest has been lost since 1970.
